Notre-Dame Cathedral is an essential stop on any open top bus tour but along with the Eiffel Tower can also be seen from the deck of a Seine river cruise boat.

The majestic bulk of Notre Dame Cathedral is one of the busiest stops on the Paris L'Open Tour. It attracts around 13 million visitors a year and stands on a small island in the River Seine, part of the Ile de la Cite, the historical and geographical heart of Paris. A small bronze star is set in the pavement in front of the Cathedral to mark the spot.

Also on the Ile de la Cite is the Conciergerie, which acted as a prison during the French Revolution, indeed visitors, can see the cell of Marie-Antoinette and Georges Danton who languished there before their appointment with Madame Guillotine.

Nearby Saint-Chapelle is also worth visiting for its stunning stain glass windows and striking Gothic architecture.

The Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge in Paris, links the Ile de la Cite with both banks of the river. It’s is an ideal place to leave the L’Open Tour behind for a couple of hours while you take to the river on a Seine river cruise

Seine River Cruise

Leaving from Pont Neuf, with Notre-Dame behind you, the cruise boat will sail slowly along one of Europe’s most beautiful and romantic rivers. It’s a chance to look again at some of Paris’s best-known attractions from a different perspective.

On the Left Bank of the river, an area forever associated with all things intellectual, there are cafes, bookstores and small markets; further east in the Latin Quarter there are the Boulevards St Michel and St Germain, immortalised in song, and all waiting to be enjoyed and explored at a later date.

The river boat takes you slowly past the Musee d’Orsay under Pont Alexandre III to the Eiffel Tower where it turns and heads back to the starting point past Place de la Concorde and the Louvre.

Many of the Paris river cruise boats are equipped with bars, snack bars, and a restaurant for that romantic evening cruise.
