For the Rugby World Cup 2007 budget accommodation in Paris and nearby Saint-Denis will be in great demand, as England, Ireland, France and South Africa all play matches
When the Rugby World Cup 2007 kicks off on September 7th, with France playing Argentina at the Stade de France in St-Denis, demand for hotel rooms in Paris is sure to be high. The Stade de France is the venue for some cracking early matches, with England playing South Africa and France playing Ireland. Then it hosts one of the quarterfinal ties, both semi-finals and the final on 20th October. Can it possibly match up to the last Rugby World Cup Final?
In Paris itself at the Parc des Princes, near the Bois de Boulogne, there are five more matches, including South Africa vs. Samoa, Ireland vs. Argentina, and England vs. Tonga. The Parc des Princes is also where the 3rd place playoff will take place.
If planning to go to Paris for any of the Rugby World Cup matches, with or without a ticket, should you stay in Paris itself or out in St-Denis, where there are more and better matches? It's a no-brainer. Paris has everything, and St-Denis is a northern suburb. It's easy to get to the Stade de France on the Metro from central Paris, a 20- or 30-minute journey on Line 13 to the St. Denis-Porte de Paris stop, from where it's just a short stroll to the Stade de France. So stay in the centre of Paris, unless you can find a real hotel bargain out in St-Denis. But there are plenty of cheap hotels right in the middle of Paris too, and here are some recommendations.

Small and friendly family-run hotel, with just 11 rooms in what was a convent in the 17th and 18th centuries. It's been tastefully modernised, although there's no lift. It's on the delightful rue de Bac in the heart of St-Germain on the Left Bank, a wonderful location and a wonderful cheap Paris hotel..

Right in the centre of the buzzing Latin Quarter is this oasis of calm, an inexpensive hotel resembling a French chateau that clusters round a leafy courtyard. It's a terrific retreat and a real bargain, but for that reason it often books up well ahead.

This 2-star option is in the funky Oberkampf district, and is another of Paris's bargain hotels. The rooms may be cheap and simple but they are pleasant, with all the basic amenities and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

On the northern side of Montmartre, well off the usual tourist track, is this characterful and budget hotel, conveniently close to a Metro station. Like Montmartre itself, it's a very arty hotel where George Braque and other artists once stayed.
