The sun-kissed city of Montpellier, France, boasts amazing dining for a variety of budgets.

Foodies will fall in love with Montpellier and its kaleidoscope of eateries. The restaurants in this 1,000-year-old town offer up all kinds of cuisine, from regional French to Indian. Some of the establishments, like the city's three-Michelin-star restaurant, may scare away those dodging dollar signs. However, even budget travelers can enjoy a delicious dish at one of Montpellier's many high quality and highly affordable restos. Below are six restaurants you can't miss.

Le Jardin des Sens • 11 avenue Saint-Lazare

Sporting three Michelin stars and a classy, modern décor, this eatery is the very definition of fine dining. The restaurant mixes Mediterranean cuisine from the local region of Languedoc with flavors from abroad. Prices are on the expensive side, generally ranging from 50€ to 190€.

La Compagne de Comptoirs • 51 avenue François Delmas

Created by the owners Le Jardin des Sens, this restaurant was made to resemble an old French trading post in India. While it serves Mediterranean cuisine just like it's three-star sister restaurant, its prices are much more palatable; meals range from around 22€ to 45€.

Aux Deux Fondus • 8 rue Cope Cambes

In this funky venue, underwear decorates the walls and wine is served in baby bottles. As the restaurant's name indicates, fondue is the main thing on the menu. Patrons can order steaming pots of melted cheese (accompanied by juicy meat squares) or chocolate (served with breads and fruit). The prices of these deliciously gooey delicacies range from around 15€ and 30€.

L'Escalier • 6 rue Jules Latreilhe

This eatery's name means, "the stairs" and it refers to the narrow winding staircase that separates the upper and lower levels of the restaurant. In the summer, customers can sit on L'Escalier's terrace, which looks out on a cobblestone pedestrian street. Diners may be too distracted by their fabulous food to do any people watching, though. The phenomenal meals of this romantic establishment run from around 15€ and 30€.

Le Bouchon de Saint Roch • 15 rue du plan d'Agde

Situated in a charming square clad with old white stone buildings. this cozy establishment offers flavorful food at very reasonable fares. Prices for the restaurant's traditional French meals start at around 9€.

Le Pré Vert • 10 rue Saint-Anne

Offering up a range of toasty beverages and sweet pastries, this tea salon is the perfect place to satisfy small pangs of hunger. Teas, coffee, and sugary eats all run under 5€. Le Pré Vert also serves breakfast and brunch for 12.50€ and under.
