Cap d'Agde, developed as a holiday resort in the 1960s beside the Mediterranean near the old town of Agde, is famous for its naturist holiday village and nude beach..

Throughout the summer thousands of naturists who enjoy spending their holidays in the nude flock to Cap d'Agde to enjoy its self-contained naturist village and long sandy nude beach.

Nude Beach at Cap d'Agde

The naturist village at Cap d'Agde has room for 40,000 people. Most stay in self-catering apartments, while others go for the day, buying a pass which gives them access to the two-mile long wide sandy nude beach, the Plage Naturiste, and all the village’s facilities. These include supermarkets, boutiques, a bank, restaurants, bars, nightclubs and a variety theatre.

Most of the apartments, usually with either a patio or balcony, are in two-storey buildings surrounded by lawns and gardens. There is also a 3-star hotel, the Eve, which has 48 air-conditioned rooms and a pool, beside a small marina, Port Ambonne, In addition a well-equipped campsite with 2524 pitches occupies a separate area adjoining the beach..

Naked on the Nude Beach and Erotic Clothes at Cap d’Agde’s Naturist Village

Guests are encouraged to be naked all the time in the naturist village at Cap d'Agde, especially on the beach. When the sun is hot and the sky blue, which happens most days throughout the summer, anything more than a beach wrap for protection against sunburn looks embarrassingly overdressed. In the evening however most people put on at least some clothes as the temperature cools.

After dark Cap d’Agde’s naturist village is transformed as many visitors choose to change into brazen erotic clothes and parade around the bar and restaurant areas. This has become Cap d’Agde’s speciality, different every season but always featuring sexy little numbers like ultra-short skirts and pants, plunging necklines, totteringly high heels, glittering or feathery accessories, plenty of straps and belts. And all this is not just worn by women!

Cap d'Agde's Boutiques and Couples-Only Clubs

As the naturist village’s boutiques sell these amazing outfits, often at very reasonable prices, a favourite pastime for many guests is shopping for evening attire as a distraction from the beach.

Unlike many naturist centres which cater for families, Cap d’Agde principally attracts an adult clientele. It has a gay beach area and the lively nightlife includes couples-only clubs and glitzy cabaret show.

Beyond the Quartier Naturiste to Cap d’Agde’s Water-side Promenades and Quays

Beyond the Quartier Naturiste, Cap d’Agde comprises broad avenues bordered by holiday villas and apartments set in gardens. The avenues lead to the marina and port where are lined with restaurants, bars and souvenir shops. In the evenings a constant flow of holiday-makers parade up and down while others relax over a drink in the open-fronted bars or enjoy a meal at tables which spread out onto the quay.

By day, for those whose interests range beyond sunning themselves on the resort’s miles of sandy beaches, the choice of activities on offer includes not only all kinds of water sports and boat trips but golf, tennis and horse riding.

The Old Town of Agde was Developed by the Ancient Greeks

A visit to the old town of Agde, 3 kilometres inland, could scarcely present more of a contrast. Spread along the River Herault, it was once the largest port in the area, having been developed by the ancient Greeks in 500 BC. But now only small fishing boats and pleasure craft line the quays which are overlooked by former merchants’ houses.

The oldest buildings, including the 12th-century Cathedrale St Etienne, are built in the local black basalt stone, hence Agde’s nickname as La Ville Noire, the black town.

Port Leucate

For anyone who wants to try a naturist holiday but finds the idea of Cap d'Agde rather brash and daunting, the naturist villages at Port Leucate, about 60 miles down the coast, offer a quieter and gentler alternative. With a similarly long sandy beach but virtually no nightlife, they are particularly popular with families.

Swimming Nude

Once people have tried naturism, few say they want to go back to having a more conventional kind of holiday. Wearing swimwear, however brief, feels damp and clammy compared with being nude.

Swimming nude, lying naked on the beach to dry off and getting an all-over tan unblemished by patches of white are all part of the enjoy ment too. Certainly there’s nowhere quite like Cap d’Agde’s Village Naturiste to experience a nudist holiday.
