Montpellier Rugby World Cup HotelsWith the Australian Team Based in Montpellier Hotels Are in Demand
When the 2007 Rugby World Cup arrives in Montpellier in September, hotel rooms will be fully booked. So check out these cheap hotels now and then check in quickly
It doesn't matter whether you want cheap hotel rooms or deluxe hotel accommodation for the 2007 Rugby World Cup, if you leave it too late every room in town will be booked. In some ways it's more important to get your accommodation booked first, as you can still go along and have a good time, even without a ticket. All the Rugby World Cup venue cities will be putting up big sports screens in the city centres, for the thousands of fans who don't have tickets to enjoy the matches live. It'll be a terrific atmosphere everywhere. And who knows, you might pick up a ticket later. But those hotel rooms will be like gold dust. Montpellier is one of the most attractive cities in southern France, with a large central traffic-free area, a young student population and an old town contrasting with a stunning futuristic part of the city called Antigone. There are great bars, cafes and restaurants, a terrific youthful vibe, and it's no surprise that in a recent poll throughout France, Montpellier was voted the number one place where other French people would like to live. So to sample that vibe for a while, and to have chance to watch matches featuring Australia, South Africa, the USA and those South Pacific livewires from Tonga, Samoa and Fiji, check out these cheaper hotel recommendations, and don't forget the Youth Hostel too. * Best Western Hotel Le Guilhem18 rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau In a very central but quiet back street in the Old Town of Montpellier, this is no typical Best Western Hotel. The 35 rooms are spread around two 16th-century houses that have been converted and modernised, and there's a lovely outdoor breakfast terrace. Moderately priced. * Hotel des Arceaux33-35 boulevard des Arceaux This budget hotel is typical of many in French cities – simple, clean and functional, with just a dash of style. And most importantly, affordable. It's also very central, and it has its own bar and small snack restaurant. Cheap. * Hotel du Palais3 rue du Palais Also central, also a budget priced hotel, the Palais is in an 18th-century building typical of the mansions in Montpellier's grand Old Town. It has more elaborately decorated and larger rooms than is usual for a budget hotel, so is a real bargain. There are only 26 rooms, and the only problem might be trying to find it again after a night out, in the maze of back streets in the lovely Old Town. Cheap. * Hotel Ulysse338 avenue de St-Maur A short 10-15 minute walk north of the city centre, the Ulysse is another great bargain budget hotel. It has 24 rooms, all different, all ensuite, and it's close to the tram line that goes out to the stadium. What more do you want? Cheap. * Auberge de JeunesseRue des Ecoles-Laiques The Youth Hostel is also handily placed on the tram line that goes out to La Mosson stadium in Montpellier. There are 89 beds spread between 19 rooms, though some rooms sleep as few as two people if you book quickly. It also has a bar that's open to midnight. * World Cup Fixture ListMONTPELLIER – Stade La Mosson Sep 12 USA vs Tonga Sep 16 Samoa vs Tonga Sep 23 Australia vs Fiji Sep 30 South Africa vs USA * To see some more suggestions for Montpellier Rugby World Cup hotels, as recommended in the Official Travel Guide to the 2007 Rugby World Cup, click here. *
