L’Occitane en Provence was founded in 1976, the vision of 23 year old Olivier Baussan, passionately in love with the natural products of his native land. Starting with an old distiller and a van, the company has grown from strength to strength and gained worldwide reputation, from natural skincare and cosmetics to radiant hair treatment, fragrance and spa.
Deeply rooted in the landscapes and traditions of Provence, L’Occitane is committed to preserving the local environment while supporting social projects and fair trade in partner communities. Many products are labelled in Braille and animal testing is banned.
L’Occitane en Provence welcomes visitors and hour long factory tours can be booked through tourist offices in Manosque or Créoux les Bains. There is an excellent shop on site.
French Beauty Products, L’Occitane Natural Skincare and Cosmetics
A range of items caters to different needs and skin types. Almond and apple protect against early signs of aging, as does the golden immortelle, also recommended for even complexion. Olive moisturises and boosts radiance on normal or dull skin while red rice from the Camargue is best for combination and oily skin.
Honey and exfoliating grape products are available for body care, alongside shea butter, mixed with organic cotton for sensitive skin.
Natural skincare includes cleansers and toners, eye serum, scrubs, face and body cream and shower oil.
Treatment for Radiant Hair, L'Occitane en Provence
L’Occitane radiant hair products are the result of long term research in essential oils extracted from lavender, geranium and angelica. Chemist and plant lover Yves Millou painstakingly analysed and blended oils to create unique formulas beneficial to all hair types.
Hair products include a leave-in conditioning mist and a radiant shine mask enriched with sunflower, wheat germ and essential oils. There are daily use shampoos and conditioners with verbena and citrus, repair and volume treatments and products for sensitive scalp.
All aim to strengthen hair, leaving it silky and shiny.
French Fragrance and Spa from L'Occitane en Provence
Strewn with wild herbs, flowers and plants, Provence is full of fragrance and this is naturally the hallmark of L’Occitane. New scents are created to secret formulas but the subtle natural fragrance is always retained, from almond and rose to lavender, cedar or cherry blossom. There’s also green tea, orange, myrtle, iris, peach and more.
Fragrance can be enjoyed in lotions and gels as well as perfumes and eau de toilette, most popular the rose-scented Eau des 4 Reines.
From Brazil to Taiwan, Occitane spas offer a range of treatments, combining traditional techniques, such as massage, scrub or body wrap, with the natural products and soothing fragrance of Provence.
