Hôtel Kléber: Paris's Period HotelThe Kléber is an Ideal Hotel to Stay for Those with Eclectic Tastes
The recently redecorated Hôtel Kléber near the Arc de Triomphe and the Trocadéro now abounds in a mélange of Parisian curios that some may find a trifle overwhelming.
About the HotelThe Hôtel Kléber’s ground floor has been redecorated in the Napoleon III style giving the hotel a completely new dimension with exquisite trompe-l'oeil draperies, kitschy pictures (featuring costumed monkeys and parrots), a splendid glass roof over a lovely aged-marble floor and unashamedly ornate damasked furniture. This may sound extravagant, but the hotel is saved from excess by some fine, plain oak panelling. The Abergel family, who also own the Académie and the Jardins du Trocadéro hotels, love hunting for period pieces for their hotels, hence the rococo lamps, encrustations, kitschy paintings and life-size statues. The hotel’s suite has a beautiful inlaid roll-top desk in its balconied salon, and even a kitchenette. All the décor in the hotel is rich in texture and colour - reds, yellows and blues. The tiled or mosaic bathrooms in some of the rooms are small but are well designed and some have whirlpool baths. Samuel Abergel’s warm welcome is confirmed by the basket of fruit and chocolates awaiting you in your room. The breakfast buffet includes home-made jams and croissants, cereals, cheese and eggs for a fine start to the day. The Hôtel Kléber has a cosmopolitan atmosphere where English, Spanish, Hebrew, Japanese and Arabic are spoken. Did You Know? The Hôtel Kléber was named after the soldier son of an Alsatian pastry cook. Kléber couldn't, as a commoner, hope for officer rank in the King's army. However, he rose fast after the Revolution killed the King: he died with the rank of General under Napoleon Bonaparte. Hotel InformationThe hotel has 22 rooms plus one suite.
