Shuttle services allow for fast and cheap transfers from Grenoble Airport to top ski resorts in the French Alps such as Alpe d'Huez, Les 2 Alpes, Courchevel and Les Arcs.

Several transportation options are available to Grenoble Airport (Aéroport de Grenoble-Isère) near Lyon in the French Rhone-Alps (Rhône-Alpes) region. As the airport is mostly used on winter Saturdays by skiers, early reservations of shuttle bus transfers to Alpine ski resorts are highly advisable.

Grenoble Airport (GNB) is in the small village Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs around 40 km (25 miles) to the west of Grenoble and 85 km (52 miles) from Lyon. Public transportation is limited to a bus service to Grenoble train station but many shared and private transfer services are available to most ski resorts in the region.

By Car to Grenoble Airport (GNB)

Driving to Grenoble Airport (GNB) is easy. From the Autoroute A48 connecting Lyon and Grenoble, use exit 9 (Rives / Grenoble Airport), and continue around 10 km (6 miles) on the D119 to the airport. Driving times from the airport are around 30 minutes to Grenoble or Lyon airport (LYS) and an hour to downtown Lyon, Annecy, Chambéry, and Albertville.

  • Taxis to Grenoble are around €60 (USD 83) and €100 (USD 138) to Lyon.

Avis, Europcar, Hertz, and National / Citer have car rental desks at Grenoble Airport. Advance reservations for car hire are usually required.

By Public Bus to Grenoble Airport (GNB)

Public bus line 7310, operated by Trans Isère, connects Grenoble train and bus station with the airport in 45 minutes. Bus schedules are coordinated with flight arrivals and departures. Tickets may be bought in the bus when traveling from the airport and from the ticket counter when traveling from downtown Grenoble.

By Shared Transfer Shuttle Bus from Grenoble Airport to Ski Resorts

Several shared transfer shuttle bus services are available from Grenoble Airport to nearby ski resorts. Advance reservations are generally essential and open as early as September for the ski season that usually last from a few days before Christmas to mid-April.

  • Shared Shuttle Services to Alpe d’Huez and Les 2 Alpes on Ben’s Bus

Ben’s Bus operates scheduled shared shuttle transfers on Saturdays and Sundays between Grenoble Airport and Alpe d’Huez and Les Deux Alpes ski resorts. Ben’s Bus has three stops in each resort. On most weekends, transportation could also be arranged to Oz-en-Osians, Auris-en-Oisan, Vaujany, and La Grave.

Ben’s Bus offers free luggage storage to passengers in both Alpe d’Huez and Les 2 Alpes allowing a full day of carefree skiing for early arrivals and late departures.

  • Shared Shuttle Bus Services to the Valley de la Tarentaise on AG Bus

AG Bus has regular shared shuttle bus services to stations in the Valley of Tarentaise (Moutiers, Aimes, and Bourg-saint Maurice). From these valley towns, it is easy to transfer to other bus and train services to reach ski resorts in the mountains such as Courchevel, Les Arcs, Val Thorens, and Val d’Isère.

  • Reservations for AG Bus shuttles services to Grenoble Airport are essential and recommended for transfers from the airport as well.

By Private Transfer Shuttle from Grenoble Airport to Ski Resorts

Shared transfer shuttle services are generally the cheapest way to travel from Grenoble Airport to nearby ski resorts. However, these shuttles run only a few times per day with waiting times at the airport of up to two hours depending on flight arrival times. Furthermore, shared shuttles have central stops in ski resorts, which may be inconvenient to local accommodation.

Many private transfer shuttle services are available from Grenoble Airport to any ski resort in the French Alps. AG Bus and Actibus are well-established companies while Ulysse Transport has a special service for travelers with reduced mobility.

  • Most low-cost airlines have a preferred transfer service provider but it is worth comparing prices and services offered online.

Cheap flights on low-cost airlines are the main draw of Grenoble Airport. It is not much closer to the ski slopes than Lyon Airport (or Geneva Airport for resorts further north) but its smallness can mean minimal delays between exiting the plane and exiting the airport building itself. Annecy (NCY) and Chambéry (CMF) are two further regional airports with winter flights to the French Alps.
